 Betsy Kipila

Betsy Kipila Betsy Kipila received a B.S. in Music Education (from Indiana Univ of PA) and an M.A. in Linguistics of American Sign Language (from Gallaudet Univ). She worked for Dr. Cornett for many years and after his retirement became Coordinator of Cued Speech at Gallaudet. After the closure of that office, she continued as adjunct faculty at Gallaudet, teaching the Intro to Cued Speech class each academic year. Betsy established the first certification process for Instructors of Cued Speech and assisted with the establishment of the first Cued Speech Interpreter certification. She is a certified Cued Speech Instructor and a certified Cued Language Transliterator. Betsy advocates bilingualism for all deaf children via the cues of Cued Speech and the signs of American Sign Language.
